Have a specific project you're working on or want to begin? Type-specific washed and picked wool has very specific characteristics that excel at particular uses.
These wools are both specific breeds and particular crosses to achieve a set of qualities such as strength, length, colour, sheen, and many others.
LONG & STRONG: average length of 6 inches, low crimp & curl. Often considered coarse. This wool is ideal for mixing with shorter fibres to create a strong yarn, roving, or batt. When felted, it will leave stray fibres creating a rustic look. This wool is from cross-bred sheep, mostly Valais Blacknose & Scottish Blackface.
ALL PURPOSE LONG: average length of 6 inches, low crimp, mild curl, slight sheen. Softer and finer than Long & Strong, this fibre can be mixed with many fibres for felting, spinning, & weaving, and it takes dye beautifully. It can also be used as dollhair. This wool is from cross-bred sheep, mostly Valais Blacknose & Border Leicester.
SOLD OUT ALL PURPOSE: average length of 3-4 inches, low crimp, nicecurl, slight sheen. A nice all-purpose fibre suitable for all crafts from wet felting to knitting. It has a nice crimp and curl and has a slight sheen. Takes dye beautifully. This wool is from cross-bred sheep that are mostly Border and Bluefaced Leicester.
1 lb bag is approximately half a garbage bag.
