FAQ:

How should I send it to you?
Depending on how much, a regular envelope or shipping box is fine. Please include details about your pet(s), including breed, age, and a little bit about them.

How long will it take?
We usually try to get orders turned around in 12-16, depending on its complexity and number of orders.

Do I have to pre-pay?
Yes, payment ensures your line in the queue. We can then update you as to how many orders are before you, giving an accurate timeline.

What's included?
The price per gram includes washing, drying, spinning of 2-ply yarn, added wool, and setting the yarn and delivery of either a skein or centre pull ball.

How much fur is needed?
No matter how much fur you have, we can use it. Even if it is only a small amount, we will make it work.

Do you have to blend the fur with wool?
The answer is - it depends. Fur has no memory - the same as alpaca. If you were to spin pure fur and knit a hat, the hat will stretch bigger and bigger, never going back to it's original size. By adding wool, even a small amount to add that elasticity and memory, it enables the yarn, and hence project, to return to its original size.

How much wool do you add?
We always use the least amount possible to get a stable yarn. It is usually around 20% added.

What kind of wool do you use?
There are three options to choose from. All wool is included in the price. We use white to differentiate the wool from the fur.

Canadian Merino is from the western provinces and processed in Manitoba. It has a shorter staple and is perfect for longer fur. It is also soft, but not as soft as the super-soft Merino.

The super-soft Merino wool is processed elsewhere and bought in. This is ideal for fur that is already incredibly soft, such as the undercoat of a husky or samoyed, to preserve that incredible softness.

Farm wool is from our own sheep. It is a long staple on the stronger and coarser side - not for next to skin. This is ideal for the shortest fur.

What kind of yarn will I get back?
Each bunch of fur is different. I try to hit yarn targets, but that is sometimes difficult. Please include your preferred end use, and I will do my best to spin it into what you want.

Can I get only my pet fur spun?
To spin fur, it needs to be at least 2 inches or more long. It will hold together, but there will be limits onto what can be made out of it. The best kind of project for fur only yarn is decorative. An alternative is to have the fur made into something needle-felted.

What about hair breeds like an Afghan Hound?
Long haired breeds can produce some beautiful yarns.

My pet is no longer with us, and I only have a tiny amount. Can I have that spun now?
Yes. Even small amounts can be turned into memorial keepsake. It's a wonderful way to keep your pet's memory close.
