Carding with natural fibre is both an art and a technique. Each fibre behaves differently when going through the machine.
In this workshop 2 hour, you will work with various types of fibres, starting with best practices of preparing the raw fibre - washing, skirting, and picking - in preparation for carding. You will learn various techniques for using the carder, explore different tools, and learn the differences between preparing fibre at home and for a small-scale mill, and discover how to card without a carder.
All fibre you prepare is taken home for your own use. If you have some, bring your own fibre too.
This workshop is suitable for all spaces that have access to tables and chairs. There is some dust and mess created through the carding process; a non-carpeted area is best for this workshop. Ages 10 and up.
Each workshop is priced per person. Minimum of 3 people; for fewer than 3, the fee is $150, plus travel fee @ $0.50/km
